About William Dodd, I

Lt. Wm. Dodd of the Continental Army was originally from Pa.( According to 1 source)and came to Botetourt Co. maybe from Augusta Co.(which is what Botetourt CO. was formed from in 1769. In 1776 he was a Lt. and in 1777 he was a Captain. He was probably born about 1755 or before and is a strong candidate to be "our" Wm. who married Mary Pierce.

A young man of seventeen, came to this country in 1774, with only a trunk, and two pounds sterling. He traveled alone. His ship left the port of London October 3. It is unlikely that he made the trip without being bonded or financed by someone in this Country. The young man listed his occupation, as a watch glider, so was probably bound out to a watchmaker as an apprentice.
