Sir William Douglas, 1st Baron Drumlanrig, Dumfries Natural son of James Douglas. He was ancestor of the house of Drumlanrig, Earls, Marquesses and Dukes of Queensberry.

Note: Sir William Douglas was the 1st Baron of Drumlanrig. By virtue of his ambassadorship to England to solicit release of James I, he was granted, by James, an undated charter to Drumlanrig, Hawick, and Selkirk. He was an illegitimate son. Drumlanrig Castle, roughly 10 miles up the Nith from Tower Lag, was built by his descendant William, 11th Lord Drumlanrig, 3rd Earl of Queensbury. The construction occurred between 1679 and 1691. He was slain in battle in France.
