About William Felshaw
Contractor and builder. Son of Lemuel Felshaw and Sarah Hicks. Married Mary Harriet Gilbert on February 1, 1827. William and Mary were converted to Mormonism in Boston by Orson Hyde and Samuel H. Smith and were baptized on May 20, 1832. Lived at Hoosick, Rensselaer County, New York, before moving to Kirtland, Ohio about 1833. Carpenter on Kirtland, Nauvoo, and Salt Lake Temples. Member of Nauvoo's 4th Ward. William was also a member of Nauvoo's Masonic lodge and an early polygamist. He and Mary were endowed December 12, 1845 in the Nauvoo Temple (Charlotte was endowed February 3, 1846). Leaving Kanesville, Iowa with John G. Smith's (wagon train) Company on May 1, 1851 the Felshaws arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on September 3rd. In 1854 William became a member of the Utah territorial legislature and later in 1856 he and others traveled to Wyoming to rescue the stranded Willie and Martin handcart companies.
