About William M Foster

Not William Anderson Foster

In memory of William M Foster, whose burial site is currently unknown. He died toward the end of the Civil War, as did his three brothers, James, Thomas and Richard.

He married Missouri (Missouria) Fowler, Nov 17, 1842, Rockford Coosa Co AL.

They had four known children:
Balus (Balis) Augustus, Thomas Wiley, Rachel J, and William (Willie) James Foster.

Wm was the son of Thomas Sr & Ginsey Jane [Fowler] Foster. Both of Spartanburg County South Carolina.

He served as a private in Co G 8th AL Inf Regt (June 1, 1861), and Co K 28th Al Inf Regt (March 1, 1862). He was wounded in action, at Murfreesboro TN, at a Battle that took place at Stone River, recovered and returned to duty. Family lore as said that he was killed by a young union soldier toward the end of the war, as that unit passed by his house, words were exchanged, Williams wife tried to rush to stop the argument, but arrived to late, as the young federal soldier discharged his weapon and killed Mr Foster. We have wondered what words may have been exchanged, I guess, it may have been about his three younger brothers and a brother in law that died in this conflict, we will never know.

After Williams death, Missouri remarried Samuel L Wood (s), Apr 15, 1865 in Perry County Alabama. They had to children; Joseph H and George W Woods, their fate is unknown to the family, both born in Perry Co AL.

Some time after the 1880 Census, the family moved to Maud Bowie Co TX, where the family lived the rest of their lives.
