The Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620 -1988 indicates that William Fowler, son of Thomas & Hannah Fowler, was born on 8 June 1668 in Amesbury, Massachusetts.
“He, like his father, held all the most important offices in Amesbury, and represented it in 1709.” ( The Fowler Family, A Genealogical Memoir of the Descendants of Philip and Mary Fowler of Ipswich, Mass., Matthew Adams Stickney, page 35)
William Fowler married Hannah Dow about 1691 in Salisbury/Amesbury, Massachusetts. Hannah was the daughter of Joseph Dow and Mary Sanborn. William and Hannah had seven children. Six of the children’s birth were given in The Vital Records of Amesbury – Births, and their relationships were confirmed in William’s will:
“Fowler, Mary, d. William and Hannah, Dec. 3, 1694.”
“Fowler, Thomas, 1st, s. William and Hanah, Apr. 1, 1698.”
“Fowler, Josiah, s. William and Hannah, Mar. 28, 1704.”
“Fowlor, William, s. William and Hanah, Oct. 14, 1706.”
“Fowlor, Phillip, s. William and Hanah, Oct. 12, 1709.”
“Fowler, Joseph, s. William and Hannah, Apr. 28, 1715.”
An additional child, Hannah Bagley, was also mentioned in William Fowler’s will.
On October 2, 1727, Thomas, father of William, bequeathed “…. to my well beloved son William fowler, forty Ackers of that Lot of Land that I bought of Jems George, in AMESBURY."
The exact date of William’s death is unknown. Although the will bears a date of 16 October 1735, it was not probated until 1745. Therefore, William's date of death falls somewhere within that range of dates -- most logically closer to the year 1745. William's wife, Hannah, apparently predeceased him.
