About William G. Brown, Jr., US Congress
US Congressman. Elected as a Democrat to represent West Virginia's 2nd District in the US House of Representatives, he served from 1911 until his death in office. The son of US Congressman William Gay Brown, he was born in Kingwood, West Virginia in Preston County (then part of Virginia), and graduated from the University of West Virginia at Morgantown in 1877. He was admitted to the bar that same year and set up a law practice in his home county, which he would maintain for the rest of his life. He was also active in banking. Brown died suddenly in Washington DC and Republican George M. Bowers was elected to complete his third term. (bio by: Robert Edwards)
