About William Gillespie
William was a soldier in the War of 1776 and served in the region of the Great Northern Lakes. He was rich for those times, owning a fine farm of 500 acres in Jefferson County, Ohio, afterward owned by the Thompson connection. In his later years he moved to Richmond County and married a widow, a Mrs. Dow. He lived to be 103 years old and was buried at Kenton, Ohio.
James Gillespie Blaine, one of the family, was, known as the "Plumed Knight" and nearly become a US president and was of the descendants of the Gillespie lineage.
