Family Story which is speculation and not yet proven, is that the father of William is John Stuart Bligh (Lord Clifton & Earl of Darnley) who was also born at Maryleborne in London (Marylebone is the same location that William Gordon Longbottom was born in). Williams' mother Anne had been a Ladies Companion and had lived at 1 Queens Gardens, Brompton Road, Kensington, London.

One source has the following; John married Anne / Ann Longbottom, Ladies Companion on month day 1850, at age 23. I don't know how true or untrue this marriage is?
John Stuart Bligh was born on 16th April 1827, Marylebone, Middlesex, England.
Alternatively, William was the son of of Sir Robert Juckes Clifton, 9th Baronet. Robert died in the year 1869 which just so happens to be the year that William was born in.
The Clifton's held the manors of Clifton and Wilford for nearly 700 years and are descended from one of William The Conquerors Knights, Alvared. Many of the Clifton's were destined to rub shoulders with royalty. The family assumed the name of 'Clifton' from the village when they purchased the lands in 1272 from the de Rhodes family. One branch of the family likewise assumed the name 'Wilford'. The family home became Clifton Hall on the summit of the Clifton heights overlooking the a large bend in the River Trent.

William Gordon Longbottom was illegitimate and in later life ran off to sea as a young boy and didn't keep in touch with his family.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Was William Gordon Longbottom an illegitimate or legitimate Hanover? Perhaps from Queen Victoria? or from Lady Flora Hastings? It is more likely that William Gordon Longbottom is descended from the Gordon family via Charles Henry Gordon-Lennox, 7th Duke of Richmond and Lennox, 2nd Duke of Gordon, KG, GCVO (27 December 1845 – 18 January 1928), 7th Duke of Aubigny
