William Gordon of Cairston succeeded Patrick Gordon of Cairston in or before 1669. National Records of Scotland, Miscellaneous papers, reference SC11/86/12 He was one of the arbiters appointed by Katherine, Elizabeth, Marjory and Barbara Beatons, on 22 March 1670. National Records of Scotland, Papers of the Scarth Family of Breckness, Orkney, reference GD217/125 He was probably dead before 15 March 1694 when Francis Gordon was in possession of Cairston.
