About William Gore
WILLIAM GORE, Merchant Taylor, 5th of the 8 sons of Gerard Gore, Merchant Taylor, (Alderman of Bridge without, 1574) by Helen, da. of [Ralph] Davenant, of Davenants, co. Essex ; was Alderman of Bridge within, 27 July 1615 till his death in 1624 ; Sheriff 1615-16, together with his brother, John Gore, who was Mayor 1624-25. He m., before April 1602, Joane, 1st da. of Sir Robert Lee, Mayor (1602-03) of London, by his first wife Joanna, da. of Henry Sutton, Goldsmith. He d. at his house at Tottenham, Midx. 14 July 1624 "being within three moneths of his tyme of being Lord Mayor "and was bur. 10 Aug., from his house in Carlile Hithe, in St James Garlickhithe, London, without any monument. Funeral certif. in the Coll. of Arms, Will dat. 24 May, pr. 7 Aug. 1624 (62 Byrde). His widow m. Nov. 1624 (as his second wife) Sir John Coke, of Melbourne, co. Derby, who was b. 5 March 1562/3, Knighted 9 Sep. 1624, some time Sec. of State, and who d. 8 Sep. 1644, aged 88, being ancestor, by his first wife, of the family of Coke of Trusley and of Melbourne, at Tottenham. She was bur., from Tottenham, 2 Sep. 1658 at St James' Garlickhithe with her first husband. Her will dat. 13 Feb. 1653 to 18 Aug. 1658, pr. 11 Feb. 1658/9 (95 Pell) by Gerard Gore, her eldest son.
Arms. Gules, a fess, argent, between 3 cross crosslets fitchee, or ; a martlet, sable, for difference. These arms, impaling Argent, a fess, between 2 roundlets in chief and a martlet in base, sable (for Lee) are on the Alderman's funeral certificate, 1624.
