William Graham, 7th Earl of Menteith was born after July 1589.[1] He was the son of John Graham, 6th Earl of Menteith and Maria Campbell.[1]
He married Agnes Gray, daughter of Patrick Gray, 6th Lord Gray and Lady Mary Stewart, after 30 March 1612.[2]
He died after 13 April 1661.[3]
Career:
- He succeeded to the title of 7th Earl of Menteith [S., 1427] in December 1598.[1]
- He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1626/27.[1]
- He held the office of Lord Justice General in 1628.[1]
- He held the office of Extra Lord of Session between 1628 and 1633.[1]
- He held the office of Lord President of the Council [Scotland] between 1628 and 1633.[1]
- On 13 August 1629 he waived his rights to the title of Earl of Strathearn.[1]
- He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1630.[1]
- He was created 1st Earl of Airth [Scotland] on 28 March 1633, with precedency of 6 September 1428.[3]
- He held the office of Lord President of the Council [Scotland] between 1639 and 1661.[1]
- On 11 January 1643/44 he was regranted the title of Earl of Menteith with remainder to his heirs male whomsoever.[1]
