About William Hamilton

William Hamilton is a DAR Patriot, Number: A050315. He provided Patriotic service during the American Revolution by paying supply tax in Washington County, Province of Pennsylvania, in 1781.

Information from the book, The Cabin Faced West, and from the Washington County Historical Society. Submitted by Member Angela #48520699: The story of the Hamiltons is given in Jean Fritz's book, The Cabin Faced West. The site of William, Mary, and Ann Hamilton's cabin is in Ginger Hill, Washington County, PA. George Washington ate dinner with them there on September 18, 1784 (stated in his diary). Ginger Hill was formerly known as Hamilton Hill.


When William Hamilton was born in 1700 in Strabane, Tyrone, Northern Ireland, his father, Lord, was 50 and his mother, Jane, was 40. He married Mary Jane Bitener Hamilton and they had 20 children together. He then married Catherine Graham in 1720 in Scotland. William Hamilton (Immigrant) ( Revolutionary War , SAR Patriot P-173889) (6thGGF) DNA match R1b1a1a2 (Male line) fought against the British during the Revolutionary War. He died on June 2, 1786, having lived a long life of 86 years, and was buried in Washington, Pennsylvania.
