notes
The Harts were not Spanish, but according to a source , H.E. Martinson, at the St. Augustine Genealogical
Society, about 300 Englishmen in East Florida, who stayed after the British Period ended and the Spanish returned in 1784, had to swear allegiance to the Spanish Crown and convert to Catholicism. Most owned land in Florida and so they stayed, even if it did mean changing their loyalty. This happened mostly in the in the beginning of the 2nd Spanish period, before East Florida was infiltrated by Georgians, who swarmed over the border and caused the Spanish immense troubles.

- http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/i/v/e/Mary-Ivers-ND/WEBS... Source Pauline Williams, great granddaughter of William Bertola Hart, stated that William was the son or grandson of John Hart, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. His father was Edward, and came to America from Scotland to England, then here.
- However, he is not a known child of John Hart. See Genealogical and Personal History of the Upper Monongahela Valley, West Virginia Bernard L. Butcher Genealogical Publishing Com, Jan 1, 1999 - Reference - 1037 pages. Page 1060.
