Erica Howton writes: William Henderson was born Bet Aug 1627 and Jun 1628 in , Fife, Scotland, and died 22 Jul 1676. He was buried in St. Theriot's Chapel, Fordell Castle, Fifeshire, Scotland. He was the son of John Henderson and Margaret Menteith.

He married Marioun Shipart 27 Jul 1654 in Ferry Port On Craig, Fife, Scotland, daughter of Thomas Shipart and Janet Putie. She was born 14 Mar 1637 in Ferry Port On Craig, Fife, Scotland.

”I have found the Christening of William at Dunfermline on April 27, 1676, the illegitimate son of John Henderson and Magdaline Lundie. I also have found in the Scottish records a John Henderson born 1655 with father William. I think this may be the William, second son to John Henderson and Margaret Menteith, but have no definitive proof. It does fit, however, very well. With this info, I and others think Sir John's son William to be the most likely father for John 1655, father to William 1676. If not it seems almost certain that there is a tie somewhere to the Fordell Hendersons. See my article in Fall 2001 edition of An Canach for details (is included in my Henderson Book).”
