From Amanda Harter (added to Ancestry.com on April 5, 2009): Our story begins with William Miner and Mary Elerner "Lexy" Green, of which little is truly known. Based on census data collected it is believed that William Miner Henson was born in 1805 in Tennessee, and that Mary Elerner "Lexy" Green was born in 1821 in the East Cherokee Nation to James Green and Elizabeth Matilda Ammons. William and Mary were married in 1832 in Georgia, and like so many others during this time they eventually joined the westward movement. It is not clear whether they left seeking land, or if they simply sought refuge from the increasing Cherokee relocation campaigns. William and Mary along with 11 of their children: Timothy 14, Samuel 13, James 12, Sarah 10, Thomas 9, Nancy 7, John 6, Wennafer 5, Mary Hannah 2, and Martha 7 months old, can be found on the 1850 United States Census in Blount County, Alabama. William reported his occupation as being a farmer, and accoding to the census records neither he nor Mary could read or write. By February 18, 1852, William and his family can be found in Precinct 4 on Belchers Ferry Road near the Rusk County line in Smith County, Texas, according to the 1852 commissioner's court minutes. The minutes for 1852 are recorded in Volume A, pages 191-235, and are housed in the Smith County clerk's office, in Tyler, Texas. This area between the Smith and Rusk County lines where William and his family settled was known as the Mt. Tabor Indian Community. According to the Canton Beat, 1860 mortality schedule, Mary Henson died in June of that year having suffered 180 days from consumption. Her husband, William and their children Sarah 20, Thomas 19, Nancy 17, John 16, Winneford 15, Mary 13, Hannah 11, Martha 10, William 9, Eliza 8, Sephone 6, Wesley 4, and Alice 3, can be found on the 1860 Federal Census farming in the Canton Beat-Troup post office area in Smith County, Texas. The last 5 of their children had all been born in Texas. It is believed that William Miner Henson died in 1868 in Smith County, Texas.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Aug 5 2019, 5:38:15 UTC
