About William Hunt, of Surry
Birth: 1599, England Death: Nov. 11, 1676 Kennon Charles City County Virginia, USA
William Hunt, Sr. was born in Heathfield, Sussex, England. He was of Isle of Wight and the "Wheelright of Buckland", Westover Parish, Charles City Co., VA. He is buried at Bachelors Point, Charles City Co., Virgina. He died at the age of 77 years.
William Hunt, Sr., was living in England prior to sailing to Virginia on the ship "Abraham" 1635. His occupation was a planter and a merchant factor while residing in Isle of Wight and Charles City Cos., Virginia.
"The HUNT's (1939) of Georgia are descended from REV. ROBERT HUNT (#149915094) 1569, England-1608, James City Co., VA. He was the Chaplain in Capt. JOHN SMTIH'S Colony at Jamestown in 1607. He was the "First" clergyman in Virginia." He married Elizabeth Edwards (#77262283) 1564, Somerset, England-?, Kent England and they were William Hunt, Sr's (1599-1676) parents and the brother of Thomas Hunt, ?, England-1666, VA. The "given name" Thomas has been "passed down" for many generations in the HUNT family.
It is speculative that Willliam Hunt, Senr's wife's name was (Sarah) Anne (Harris?) and her parents are believed to be William Harris, Sr. and Alice (Smith/Smythe) Harris.
The inscription on William Hunt, Senr.'s tombstone reads as follows:
"Here Lyeth Interred ye Body of William Hunt, Senr. who Departed this Life Novemb yr 11th. Ano Dmi 1676." Aged 77 Yeares.
The cemetery is located on a hill on the land William Hunt, Senr., resided. Bachelors Point is an area located on a bank of the James River, near Kennon's Creek which was originally known as David Jones Creek, as well as Swans Neck Creek. Between 1642 and 1724, Bachelors Point was part of James City County and within Wallingford Parish, later becoming part of Charles City County and Westover Parish.
It is suspected William Hunt, Senr., was known as the "Baconite" and was the principal aider and abettor of Nataniel Bacon's Jr., Rebellion. The family of William Hunt, Sr., has said he was a Bacon "symathizer."
In 1636, William Hunt patented lands on the western branch of the Nansemond River, using the headrights of Philip Thomas, Evan Thomas and Michael McKinnie.
It was fourteen years after William Hunt, Sr. had used the names of Philip Thomas, Evan Thomas, his son, William Hunt, Jr. and his wife, Sarah Ann Harris Hunt, as headrights over south of the James River in the Isle of Wight County or Nesemond County, Virginia.
William Hunt, Senr's., 2 children by his 1st., marriage to (Sarah) Anne (Harris?) Hunt were:

William Hunt, Senr's 3 children by his 2nd., marriage to Judith (Burton) Hunt were:

NOTE:
William Hunt, Jr's aunt Angelica (Hunt) Cobbs, #102765930 (m. Ambrose Cobbs, #102766196, s/o Thomas and Christina (Young) Cobbs) had at least one brother, Stephen Hunt of Chislete, County Kent (m. Elizabeth MNU). However, it is reported she had at least two others; the Reverend Robert Hunt (William Hunt, Sr's father) who migrated to America on the original voyage to Jamestown, in 1607; and Thomas Hunt who arrived in Jamestown on the second supply ship in September 1608. Angelica married Ambrose Cobbs about 1584 in Kent County, England.
