About William Hurst

As proven by the Hurst Y-chromosome DNA study in 2003, this William Hurst has nothing to do with the Hursts of Leckhampstead, Buckinghamshire, England. William's year of birth is variously recorded as 1690, 1702, 1706, etc. He was called Brindle Will due to his red hair (today most people call him Brindle Bill instead of Brindle Will).

He was the son of John "Of Stafford" Hurst, overseer for Robert "King" Carter, and John's wife Jane. He was *not* the son of Henry "Of Orange" Hurst. See:

An LDS record erroneously places his marriage to Judith Calfee in England in 1729.
