In 1883, William started with the firm J. H. Sternbergh and Son, of Reading, PA, remaining with the company during the take overs by American Iron and Steel Company and Bethlehem Steel as General Superintendent of the Lebanon, PA mill.
Was Hermit Commandery, No. 24, of the Knights Templar, Member of both Reading and Mount Lebanon Lodges, No 121, Odd Fellows. He was a member of the Harrisburg Consistory Scottish Rite, 32d degree, and of the Creigh Council of Masons, andRajah Temple, Mystic Shriners, Reading.
Welsh newspaper Evening Express, April 1, 1901 (pink edition), Maesteg Man’s Success: Mr. William Hutchinson, who was born in Maesteg, and whose sister, Mrs. Tudor, is land lady of the Home Hotel in that town, has just been appointed superintendent of the American Iron and Steel Manufacturing Company’s mills in Lebanon andReading, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.
