About William Kibble Jelliman
I have frequently come across this family, especially in the Fort Beaufort district, where they were farming. They seem to be descended from William Jelliman, born in Hampstead, North London, and who appears to have arrived here at some time after 1820. He was married on 18 Sep 1837, at port Elizabeth, to Eliza Rayner, eldest child of William Rayner and his wife Martha (nee Morris). William Jelliman kept an inn at the farm Leeuwfontein, near fort Beaufort and was murdered there, just after the outbreak of the 8th Frontier War in Dec 1850. They had at least one child, William Kibble Jelliman, who was farming in the Tarka district in the 1860's and who was married to Selina -. Amongst their children were William Edward (b. 11 Jul 1865) and Albert Reuben (b. 24 Aug 1867).
