William Kelton, Jr. was the son of Elizabeth Ramsay and William Kelton, Sr. He was born on 7/12/1778 in Morgan District, Burke Co, NC. He married Minerva Unknown about 1803 in Smith Co, TN. They were the parents of:William Henry Kelton 1801 Elizabeth Kelton (Farmer) 1803 Wilson S. Kelton 1806 (died bef 1820) James Robert Kelton 1808 All of the children were born in Rutherford Co, TN. The 1810 census notes that they lived "four houses down from David Crockett." Minerva Kelton died in 1811. William later married Rebecca Burkhalter (widow of Archibald Faulkner). They were the parents of: Robert H. Kelton 1823 Wilson S. Kelton 1825 (named to honor deceased brother) Nancy Kelton (Owens) By 1836, the Warren Co Tax list shows William and Rebecca left Rutherford Co and moved to the more mountainous area of McMinnville, Warren Co, TN. During the War Between the States, Mr. John Thomas Kelton, a private in the Confederate service, found himself in front of a large brick residence in Warren Co, TN, the owner of which on hearing the name of Kelton introduced himself and it was established that he was William, the great uncle of the soldier. The old man asked the young private into his house and pointed out an oil painting with the remark that it was the work of a son.
