It is believed William's wife was Sarah Elms, but no supporting documentation has been found. There is an Edward Elms in Halifax, North Carolina in the 1780s and 1790s. Elms could be a variation on Nelms, Elams or Helms. Are there any connections to the Elam family in Chesterfield, Virginia.
