Probably the son of Samuel and Mary (?) Kitchen. He married Alice "Elsey" Beam 23 May 1782 in Hunterdon County, NJ. After the American Revolution he came to the Niagara Peninsula and was granted land in 1790 on 30 mile creek in Clinton twp. Lincoln county, where he built a mill. About the same time he was also granted land in Grimsby Gore, Grimsby, Lincoln County. In 1791 he was a member of the Grimsby Twp. Council, and served as one of two overseers of roads. He was appointed assessor in 1796. William and Alice were the parents of (at least) Mary Kitchen who married Levi Hixson.
