William Lindsey

William Lindsey, fifth child of William Lindsey and Catherine Lindsey, married Catherine Woodbury, daughter of Jonathan Woodbury of Bristol, 26th of April, 1772 ; by whom he had issue:
(l) Mary, of whom a romantic tradition is. handed down, of her losing her lover at fifteen by his going to sea; his loss thereon, and her mourning for him till her death at the ripe old age of eighty- four.
(2) Catherine, born December 3, 1775, Bristol, RI; d. Oct. 19, 1854; m. Dec 12, 1799 - John Peckham.
(3) Jonathan Woodbury, born June 18, 1778, and who married Hannah Easterbrooks. The said Jonathan W. was a sea captain; their issue were: 'Sarah, born July 12,1798. 'Hannah, August 5, 1800. 'Martha, June24,1802. 'Mary, August 18,1804. 'Lydia, April 2,1807. 'Jonathan, March 10,1809; died July 2, 1853. Catherine, August 4, 1811. 'Abby, September20,1813.'William, 1816, who married Miss ?, and had the following five children : Crawford Easterbrooks (not long since Mayor of Fall River, Massachusetts), Charles Bradford, William J., John Hathaway and Eliza, all residents of Fall River, Massachusetts. "Nancy, born December 14, 1819. "Nathaniel, May 10, 1823, who married and had issue Jonathan Woodbury Lindsay.
(4) William, born August 23, 1780; died on his voyage home from Guinea; no issue.
(5) Martha, born October 30,1782; d. Apr. 20, 1843, Bristol, RI; m. Jan 9, 1804, Bristol, RI - George Munro
(6) Woodbury, born January 15, 1785, Bristol, RI; Marr: 24 JUN 1812 - Bristol, RI - Hannah Norris
(7) Sarah, born October 24, 1787; Marr: 16 NOV 1809 - Bristol, RI - George Pearse
(8) Nathaniel, born April 14, 1790; died young.
(9) Allen, born June 20, 1793; lost at sea, St. Martinico; left two sons; one Allen Lindsay, was last known to have resided as a merchant in Boston.
(10) Nathaniel, born July 9,1796, and also died young.-

In March, 1774, Margret Swan sold land at 36 Bradford St. (formerly Broad St) in Bristol to William Lindsey, a merchant and house wright. Parson Wight recorded that William and Catherine Lindsey built a house here in 1795. By 1800 George Munro, who married the Lindseys' daughter Martha, owned this 2-1/2 story, gable-roof, 4-bay Federal house.
