William married Susannah (Martin) Long on September 2, 1816 in Woodford County, Kentucky, United States. Together they had the following children: Susannah (Long) Whisennand; Amos Howery Long; Aaron Martin Long; Jemima Long; Daniel Anderson Long; Mahala Holman.

William married Marcia "Massah" (Wheat) Long on December 10, 1795 in Bedford County, Virginia, United States. Together they had the following children: John Long; Eli Long; Zadoc Virgil Long, Sr.; Henry Long; Elizabeth (Long) Trabue; Elvira (Long) Fish; William Long; Clementine (Long) Ramsey.

He died on January 6, 1849 in Lawrence County, Indiana, United States and was buried in Bailey Cemetery.
