William Manchester.
Born at Portsmouth about 1654, died at Tiverton, October 15/1718. He married Mary Cooke, born 1650, daughter of John and Mary (Borden) Cooke, subject 694. He was a freeman of Portsmouth on April 9/1675, and removed to Pocasset where he joined in the purchase from Governor Josiah Winslow of Pocasset, lands at Tiverton and Little Compton in March 1679-80. Of the total 30 shares into which it was divided, he took five, which at the rate of œ100 for the whole, made his disbursement œ16. At the time of the foundation of Tiverton on March 2/1692, he removed there. He was a very wealthy man and his estate was inventoried at œ1586.O.0. He held numerous town offices, from Representative to the General Court of Massachusetts, to fence viewer.

"William Manchester (Thomas1), born in Portsmouth, R. I., about 1654, died in Tiverton, R. I., in 1718. He married Mary Cook, died after 1716, daughter of John (Thomas1) and Mary (Borden) Cook of Pocasset, Mass. (Austin.) He was admitted freeman of Portsmouth 9 April 1675 (records of town of Portsmouth) He was one or the purchasers of Pocasset in the Plymouth Colony (now Tiverton and Little Compton, R.
