A copy of William Martin's Will follows:

Will of William Martin In the name of God amen, I William Martin of Wake County & State of North Carolina being of sound mind & memory & knowing that its appointed for all men once to die do make & publish this my last Will & testament in manner and form as follows, To Witt First, I Bequeath my soul to God that gave it me & my body to be decently Buried at the discretion of my Executors, & Then my will & desire is for all my property to be sold and after my just debts is paid, the balance arising from the sale to be divided as follows,

To Witt,

  • Item, I give and Bequeath to my Daughter Agnes High ten shillings,
  • Item, I give and Bequeath to my daughter Fanny Moore's Son Benjamin Moore ten shillings
  • Item, I give & bequeath to my son John Martin ten shillings,
  • Item, I give and bequeath to my daughter Betsey Crenshaw ten shillings,
  • Item, I give & bequeath to my daughter Salley B. Crenshaw ten shillings,
  • Item, I give and bequeath to my daughter Rachel High's son Alexander High ten shillings,
  • Then my will and desire is that my daughter Pattey Warren,
  • my daughter Delilah Crawford,
  • my son James Martin and
  • My Grand daughter Betsey Rose, daughter of my daughter Fanney Moore..Equally divide the ballance of the money arising from the sale.

And further I nominate and appoint my son John Martin & William Foster(?) Executors to this my last will & testament in Witness whereof I hereon to set my hand and fix my seal this 10th Day of May 1811. Term 1811 This will was duly proven in Jun Court by the Oath of Sally Coopper Subscribing Witness and ordered to be recorded.
