Unmarked grave of William E. Martin. Location determined by the markers for Dorothea Singstock and other Singstocks, also in Lot 45.

Obit / Letter by Robert Denny, "William Martin" in "The Salem Leader" (letter dated 10 Apr 1897), clipping has no page number noted. Quotations here rearranged according to chronological order of events mentioned: "[His father] Moses Martin was, in the early history of Washington county, one if its prominent and highly respected citizens"; "father of thirteen children" "William Evans Martin" "was born in Shelby county, Ky. Oct. 7, 1812; came to Washington county in early life [Stevens 739 says age 21]; married Hannah Starbuck, daughter of George Starbuck, in Salem, Nov. 2, 1837. She survives him. Ten children were born to them, eight of whom are still living; two died in infancy [Martha 5 & Elizabeth 1]." "William removed to Indianapolis in 1873 [same in Stevens 740], and died there in 1897." "...funeral services, held in the Third Christian church, Indianapolis, April 8,...after which Brother Martin was laid to rest in Crown Hill cemetery, Indianapolis." Credibility of author Denny: "I had been acquainted with the Martin family more than sixty years, and was called to take part in the funeral services...."
