"I'll have to leave you today". Mr McAfee said to his children as they stood by his bed, even though he seemed better than usual. He lasted through part of the next day. May 6, 1926. He had told different people several days before that he was ready to die. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord". He rested on the promise. "be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of Life". For a number of years he had been a faithful member and deacon of Bethany Christian Church.

Always as good a Christian on week days as on Sundays. Always ready to serve his Lord in giving to his cause without being called upon. The day before he died he could not talk but in a whisper. Leaning down to hold an ear to him we heard him saying, I want to tell you something. Put me down $5 for the pastor. In just a few days he would have been 79 years old. The funeral services were held under the trees of the yard at his home by A.E. Robertson and Mr George Pridemore whom he requested to speak at that time. "Jesus, the bible says, "they that turn many to righteousness shall shine as the stars forever and ever." Then trust in God through all thy days. Fear not for he doth hold thy hand. Though dark thy way, still sing and praise. Sometime, somewhere we'll understand
