About William Meeks, Jr.

On the 3rd of November 1784, William Meeks was granted 100 acres on the Tarrarat River for his Revolutionary War service. This river is now called Ararat River and is located in the Yadkin-Pee Dee Basin of North Carolina.

WILLIAM MEEKS was born in Virginia, and died 1800 in Greenville Co., S.C.. He married MARY (MOLLY) NOLIN Abt. 1750.

Notes for WILLIAM 2 MEEKS:

In 1778 he owned land in Surrey County, N.C.

There was a William Meeks in the 2nd North Carolina Regiment during the Revolutionary War. Also a Robert in the same unit & a John Denny.

He lived with Athe during last years of his life. Gave Athe power of attorney August 18, 1796.

William Meeks joined Anderson's Company from N.C. on Dec. 25 1777 as a private & served 3 years.

He was a corporal in Bacots Company from N.C. He enlisted Aug 20, 1782 and served 18 months.

William was granted 228 acres of land in N.C.

William & Robert were on the roster of Col. John Patton's Company in 2nd Battalion on Sept 9, 1778. This is taken from the book "Roster of Soldiers From North Carolina in the American Revolution" Genealogical Publishing Co., Baltimore, Md 1977.

Bought 100 acres of land on Tarrant River on Nov 3, 1784 in Surrey Co., N.C.

Was given a court order for exemption of poll tax on May 10, 1785 in Surrey Co.
