Son of John Moorhead & Elizabeth Dunn. He died in Union Co., SC, which later became Cherokee County.
From Roster of SC Patriots by Bobby Gilmer Moss: While residing in Union District, he entered the army in the winter of 1779 under Capt. Robert Montgomery, Col. James Steen, and Gen. Lincoln. In the summer of 1782, he enlisted under Capt. Nicholas Jasper, Maj. Benjamin Jolly, and Col. Brandon. He and Jolly stole five boats at Ashley Ferry and carried them five miles inland by wagon. In February 1783, he re-enlisted under Captain Montgomery, Maj Jolly, and Gen. Pickens and marched against the Cherokee Indians.
