About William James Nutt, III
William Nutt III (1762-1843) enlisted in the Revolutionary War, 20 July 1781, as a soldier from Derryfield NH. He was discharged in Dec 1781 after serving nearly six months in the company of Moses Nichols. In 1782, William Nutt, "soldier", was taxed in Derryfield, but he soon moved to Maine. By 1785, he and his first wife (Hannah Glidden Nutt) were living in Whitefield, Lincoln Co., Maine where William had purchased a farm near the border with Balltown (now Jefferson).
After his first wife died in 1800, he filed intentions on 1 Nov 1802 to marry one Elizabeth Goodspeed of Balltown. That marriage, however, never took place. Instead, on 24 Feb 1803, he was married in Balltown to Lucy Avery.
William remained in Whitefield for many years before eventually moving to St. Albans, Maine. He died there on 6 Feb 1843 in his 81st year of age.
