Lottie m. WILLIAM OLIVER FIEDLER May 24, 1899 in Carroll Co., IN. I have photo of Wm. and Lottie when young then when they are a bit older, then with their son Lorenzo Ernest. Then I have photo of William O. Fiedler when he was MAYOR OF LOGANSPORT, IN which includes historical biography. Fortunately I wrote the FIEDLER "book" some time ago. Mayor William O. Fiedler lost his wife Lottie then married two more times.

The father of Mayor William O. Fiedler was Michael Fiedler 1839-1922. Michael was b. 1839 in Fretterode, Erfurt, Germany. Quite a story about Michael, and that is as far back as is known by our family other than his m. to a Catherine E. Sang or Lang. She was b. Germany 1843. You can find Michael and his wife in the 1880 cxensus in Cass Co., IN in Washington Twp. I have photos of Michael and Catherin

william also was sick with typhoid fever at the time and did ot know of litti'es deasth and burial until some time later.

William married Harriet b. Chapman 2 Sep 1913, but nothing is really known of this marriage. A relative od the family says that the couple was divorced.

the third marriage for William was to Thea Hagedorn 3 Dec. 1915. This couple had four children,, name;y: ruth, Edna, Howard and Paul. ruth married Loren Jones; Edna married Richard Powers; Howard married Wilma [-?-] (maiden name unknown); and we do not have a marriage recorded for paul.

William had political ambition and in 1929 was elected to serve as Mayor of Logansport, Indiana.

Logansport Press of Wedeneday, may 8 1929 says:

OFFICIAL FINAL VOTE REPUBLICAN Mayor Fiedler . . . . 2831.

IT'S FIELDER AND GUTHRIE

RACE FOR MAYOR ON BOTH-TICKETS FAILS TO REVEAL PREDICTED CLOSE MARGIN

Fiedler Gets Twice As Many Votes As All His Opponents; Guthrie Gets All But 400 Votes Democrats Cast

A comic opera primary held yesterday, William 0. was nominated by the- Republicans who gave him 2331 of the 3483 votes they cast for mayor, the other half dozen statesmen going into a huddle for

the remaining 1152 votes and each of them got a few.

On the Democratic side Mayor Frank V. Guthrie, running his fourth heat, was given a vote of confidence

by his party, receiving 1769 of the 2159 votes' cast; his three opponents winnowed the remaining 390 votes.

The Republicans got out more votes than the Democrats loa-gely under false pretense; it had been represented to the merry villagers that a hot fight was in progress for the Republican nomination and that it would be a close finish- Alas! Fiedler got twice as many votes as all six of his opponents, the result leaving a deep suspicion that the people intended to select Fiedler all along and that there was really no need of the other boys running unless they did it for the exercise.

Among those present in this greatly over-advertised mayoralty handicap were: Walter Bowyer, ex-sheriff; William H. Monroe, present coiincilman-at-large; U, S, Hoffman, ex-county treasurer; Arthur Tucker, ex-police officer; Clayton Powlen, real estate man, and Arthur Voorhees, lumber dearl and manufacture of a dissappearing bed that never disappeared more completely than did his anticipated vote.

Among themselves they mustered a total of 1152 votes or an average of 192 votes apiece or reduced to its lowest terms, an average of 7-1-2 votes to the precinct.

Fiedler carried every precinct, in the city save one —The second of the Third ward, where Bowyer got 25 of. the 28 votes cast.

On the Democratic side It was much the same, (he difference being that the Democrats seemed-to know that they really had no ron- Inst while the Republicans took it. seriously.

Mayor WIlliam O. fielder

A review of the administration of William O. fielder, Mayor of Logansport, Ind. from January 6, 1930, to September 1, 1938, inclusive

The record to be found in the following pages speaks for itself. It is a tribute to the man who came into office when the citys finances had reached low ebb, and served during the period when banks had closed their doors, when teachers salaries were cut and their pay held up, and citizens were walking the streets looking for work and sustenance.

during this period, as taxes in cities throughout the country mounted by leaps and bounds, Mayor fielder "stuck to his guns" for strict economy in the management of all departments yet so efficiently was the work handeled that the city was beautified, equipment added or renewed, thousands of men given work and scores of improvements made - all with a constantly decreasing tax rate.

this all bespeaks great praise for the honesty and efficienty of the city administration under the leadership of mayor fielder.

Mr. Fiedler enterd the publice service as Eel Township Assessor, severinv from 1923 to 1926, both inclusice; and as Assessor of Cass County, serving from 1927 until taking the offis oc Mayor January 6, 1930.
