About William PRATT 240
Where did the PRATT family get their potting skills from ?
Claerly Thomas HEATH was a "Potter" who died in 1765.
Thomas PRATT was a Butcher from Caverswall when he married into the HEATH family with Elizabeth HEATH in 1745.
Therefore Potting was not the skill of Thomas PRATT.
So in the 20 years before the death of Thomas HEATH did Thomas PRATT aquire those skills from his Father in law.
It is clear that there were some excellent quality products turned out from the Arks Lane site.
If you look at the example whish I have set for the profile image for William PRATT 1753-1799.
These Wedgwood type wares were very sophisticated with cream body engine turned and blue sprigged adornment.
There is mention that Both William PRATT (1753) and the above mentioned Thomas PRATT were POTTERS as this was noted on the marriage licence of William and Ellen EDWARDS in 1776.
William PRATT 1753 was later a "Master Potter" but was only 12 at the time of Thomas HEATH's death. So unlikly to have gained the knowledge from his Grand father.
Then it was either his Father or retained staff at the Arks Lane pottery who passed down the potting knowledge.
As a timeline ( Josiah WEDGWOOD went into partnership with Thomas WHIELDON ) in the year of William PRATT's birth 1753.
