"William : Paine the son of John and Bennet Paine was borne the sixth day of June : 1695" in Eastham, Barnstable, Massachusetts.[1] "about one of the clock in the morning". His mother was Bennet (Freeman) Paine.[2][3]

William (of Eastham) married as his first wife Sarah Bacon (of Barnstable). They filed an intention 2 Sep 1727 in Barnstable. Sarah daughter of Nathaniel and Ruth (Doggett) Bacon, was born in Barnstable, Tues. 6 Jan 1707/8 and died in Eastham Maonday 16 Jan 1473/4 "wife of William Paine, Esquire" aged 36. She was buried in the Orleans Cemetery. Nathaniel Bacon in his 1729 will named his daughter Sarah Paine, and gave her £200 in addition to what she already had.[3]

William Paine Esquire, married second Mrs. Elizabeth (Osborn/Osborne) Merrick/Meyrick on Tuesday 15 Jan 1744/5 in Eastham. Rev. Joseph Crocker officiated. Elizabeth, daughter of Rev. Samuel and Jedidah (Smith) Osborn was baptized 1 Jan 1715/6 in Sandwich, Massachusetts. She was the widow of William Merrick and married Edmund Doane after the death of William. She died in Barrington, Nova Scotia Thursday 24 May 1798.[3]

William's father, John, named him and his brother John as executors of his will written and proved in 1731.[3]

He was commissioned a Justice of the Peace in 1737, represented Eastham at the General Court in Boston in 1731, 1732, 1735, 1738, 1739, 1740, 1743, and 1744. 4 Nov 1745, after the capture of the French stronghold of Louisbourg, Cape Breton, William succeeded his brother, Theophilus, as Lt. in Capt Elisha Doane's company, Col Shubael Gorham's Seventh Massachusetts Regt.[3]

William died in Louisbourg, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in August or Sept 1746 age 51 years.[4][3]

William left no will, administration was granted to his brother, Theophilus 20 Jan 1746/7. After an inventory was taken, his estate was declared insolvent.[3]

Children, first four by Sarah (Bacon) and last child by wife Elizabeth (Osborn) (Merrick).[3][5]
