About William Parmenter

He inherited various lands in Little Yeldham from his father, and copyhold lands called Cowell or Gouldwell from his brother George. As only two of his children were baptized at Little Yeldham, it is likely that at some period he resided elsewhere and therefore was probably the William Parmenter who was assessed in the subsidy of 1596-7 in the adjoining parish of Sible Hedingham. The registers of this parish are lost prior to 1680 and thus no confirmation can be made for this premise.

William inherited the lands of Tankerton and Busheleyes by the will of his father, and the copyhold lands of Cowell alias Gouldwell from his brother George in m 1613. Manorial rental records show him as the tenant for Tankerton in Little Yeldham in 1611. Court rolls for the manor of Tilbury-Juxta-Clare indicate that he lived at that manor for a period of years prior to moving to Little Yeldham.
