Biography

William Perry, birth unknown, parents unknown, was a landowner of Scituate, Massachusetts as early as 1638 when a property was described as being bounded by land of 'William Perie to the North'.[1]

He married Susanna Carver c 1640. Susanna was baptized at Filby, Norfolk, England on October 15, 1618, daughter of Richard and Margaret (Skurrie) Carver.[1] [2]

1644/5: January 16: William Perry of Scituate posted bond for his wife Susanna who was to appear in the General Court for 'spoiling and defiling the water at Scituate.'[1]
1657: They were of Scituate when William's name appears on the town's list of men who had taken the oath of fidelity.[1]
1674: They were of Marshfield when his wife Susanna was named as a legatee of her step-father Michael Barstow of Watertown.[1][3]
William Perry Sr. of Marshfield, died by January 16, 1692/3 when the inventory of his estate was taken.[1] There were debts due from the estate to both sons Thomas Perry and William Perry Jr. for 'expenses about their father and mother' as well as debts due to eldest son Thomas for funeral expenses for his father and mother, so Susanna had died by this time as well.[1][4]

Notes

Appears to have been a resident of Scituate from 1637 and of Marshfield from 1657.

William Perry, born 1620; died about 1693; married Susanna Carver, daughter of Richard and Margaret Carver. Appears to have been a resident of Scituate from 1637 and of Marshfield from 1657. A recurrent error has this William and/or Thomas Perry married to Sarah Stedman, daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth Stedman. However, as shown by Robert S. Wakefield in "The Family of Isaac Stedman of Scituate and Muddy River, Massachusetts," TAG (July 1994), pp. 155-159, this Sarah actually married Samuel Perry, son of John and Anne (Newman) Perry. Susanna Carver emigrated with her parents from Norfolk County, England, to Watertown, Massachusetts, in 1637.
