William is the grandson of Jeremiah Phillips, 1745 - 1805 Mercer County, Kentucky.

WILLIAM H. PHILLIPS, SON of GEORGE MITCHELL PHILLIPS, CORRECTION:

After much research I have concluded that some of the children of William H. Phillips, born 1804 in Mercer Co. Kentucky, and his wife to Elizabeth Jordan, born 1804 in Kentucky, are incorrect on most of the Family Trees at Ancestry.com. William H. and Elizabeth were married 27 Dec 1805 in Mercer Co. and moved to Boone Co. Missouri before having their first child. (William H. is considered the first resident of Boone County. See newspaper article below) Their children ARE Susan M. born 1827, George J. born 1829, Zerelda born 1835 and Lilburn G. born 1839. All were born in Boone Co, Missouri. The 1850 Federal Census of Boone County shows William H. and Elizabeth Phillips living with George J. Zerelda and Lilburn. Susan M. has married William Slade in 1844 in Boone Co. and they are living next to William H and Elizabeth. The Will of William H. shown below confirms the children's names of Susan, George J. and Lilburn. Zerelda passed away in 1853 and therefore is not listed as a Heir on William H.'s Will. George H. Phillips born 1826 born in Mercer Co, Kentucky and his brother William Phillips born 1830 in Mercer County ARE NOT the children of William H. Phillips and Elizabeth Jordon. They are the children of John Phillips and Mary Server who were married 12 Oct 1814 in Mercer Co, Kentucky. The 1860 Harrodsburg, Mercer Co. Census Page 14 shows George living with his wife Louisa Morgan and the first six of their 10 children. George and Louisa were married 13 Jul 1846 in Mercer County. George's father John had passed away so his mother Mary (Server) Phillips signed the marriage bond as did William Morgan the father of Louisa.

William Phillips and his wife Jane Dean are listed on the same 1860 Harrodsburg, Mercer Co. Census page 12. They married 9 Oct 1851 in Mercer Co. They have two roomers living with them each of whom are listed as a seamstress. Living at the same address (perhaps it is a hotel or boarding house) are William and George's mother Mary (Server) Phillips who also is listed as a seamstress. She was born in Virginia as is her mother Sarah (Pierce) Server who is living with her.

DNA Information: The DNA Haplo markers of George Mitchell Phillips is known through previous DNA testing by a descendant. Arrangements are being made for DNA testing of a descendant of George H. to confirm that they are not related. Results will be available in about 3 months and will be posted.
