About William de Puttenham, II

William (2), son of Henry (2) Puttenham, was born about 1430, died in 1492. His will was dated July 10, 1492, and proved at Lambeth, July 23, 1492. He directed that his body be buried before the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Chapel within the church of the Hospital of the Blessed Mary, called the Elsingspytell, in London. He married Anne, daughter of John Hampden, of Hampden, county Bucks. William Puttenam of Puttenham, Long Marston, Sherfield, Warbelton, etc. returned as "Esquire" for the Co. of Herts, about 1480. Aged 30 and over in 1473 and 40 and upwards 1st of Ric. III, say 1483.

He was declared "heir" of Henry Puttenham his father by Inqn. P.M. 1473. In 1475 he held the Manor of Tyscote near Puttenham. v. Inqn. of Jo. Harvey.

  • Frideswide. [In 1496 Sir Th. Oxenbridge and his wife Frideswide held lands in Co. Beds. She may have been the eldest dau. of William Puttenham.].

William de Puttenham, of Sherfield, Penn, Wableton, Long Marston, etc., in Co. Sohants., Bucks., and Herts., d. 1492. m. Anne de Hampden. Their third son, Nicholas Putnam, of Penn, Bucks., who was named in his father's will, and in the Bucks "Visitations," (see Eben Putnam's "Putnam Family," and reference therein).

He married Anne, daughter of John Hampden, of Hampden, who was living in 1486. They had sons: Sir George, Thomas and Nicholas.
