About William Reedy
In the 1881 UK census, Hannah Reynolds Reedy is listed as a "trimmer's wife." A (coal) trimmer is responsible for coal on a steamship.
Aunt Anna remembers her grandfather as a man who was very limber way up into his old age. He was able to bring his leg around his neck! He also had snow white hair.
William Reedy was living with his daughter Mary and her husband James Fagan when the 1920 census was taken. Aunt Anna remembers that he had lived with them for a few years. Gerard Fagan remembers Grandpa Reedy sitting at his usual spot next to the stove in the kitchen. Even in his advanced years he liked to sip at the rum.
William did spend some time living with his daughter Martha in Silver Beach. However, at the time of his death, William was living in the Home for the Aged in the Bronx. I believe the address was 368 E. 162 St. His death certificate states that he worked as an engineer on a boat. Surprisingly, it also states that he had lived in the United States for 52 years. Is it possible that he could have left Hannah alone in Liverpool all that time?
Note: His birth address was listed as "Sherwood St.," presumably in Liverpool, which is near the docks.
