He is the son of William Rose and Amy Langston, he inherited land from his father on Nap of Reeds Creek called Smallwoods at the age of 21. He also bought 177 acres on the south side of Tar River in 1784.
He married Elizabeth Merritt daughter of Ephraim/Ephriam? Merritt in Granville County on March 10, 1774 by Rev. Robert Dickens & bondsmen were James Langston, Reuben Searcy and Ellis Drewry. Note that James Langston was a brother of William Rose's mother Amy.
William volunteered for service in the Revolutionary War in the spring of 1780 until in November when he was permitted to return home to his family.
Soon after the birth of a son on December 1, 1780, William again volunteered as an ensign under Captain Stephen Merritt, his brother in law and under Lt. Joseph Langston, his uncle. He served almost 18 months before Cornwallis surrendered & William resigned his commission of ensign & he returned to his family.
William & family for awhile lived in Powell's Valley, TN & he first appeared on the Whitley County, KY taxes in 1824. He applied for a Revolutionary War pension on November 19, 1833 declaring that he lived on the waters of Cain Creek.
William's will dated January 18, 1835 stated he and Elizabeth had 10 children.
Elizabeth applied for a pension on August 12, 1836 & stated she was living on Clear Fork at the time. She died prior to March 27, 1857 when her pension was terminated & she is buried at the Ben Rose cemetery near the area of Rose Creek, there is supposed to be an old fashioned iron fence around her grave near the center of the cemetery, but it was removed long ago because for awhile the cemetery at Rose's Creek was badly over grown & since then her gravestone has became illegible.
He actually has two Find a Grave areas online: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=109984192 and https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/22672496/william-rose
