About William James Scullen
William James Scullen 53, Sydney Mines William James "Bill" Scullen, 53, of 292 Pitt Street, Sydney Mines, passed away peacefully, Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his family. Bill was born in Sydney Mines on July 3, 1945. He was the son of the late Joseph and Theda (Young) Scullen. He was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines. Bill was employed with Devco for 30 years until his retirement in 1994 from the Prince Mine, due to illness. He held various positions in both the District 26 and the local union of the UMWA. Bill is survived by his wife of 29 years, Beverley (Weir); one son, Darren (Nikki), Louisdale, N.S.; one daughter, Tanya at home. Bill was also survived by three sisters, Marguerite (Tim) Robinson, Sydney Mines, Helen (Ralph) Aucoin, Woburn, Mass., Joan (Bill) Buffett, North Sydney and one brother, Joseph (Diane), London, Ont. Visitation will take place at the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Sydney Mines, Wed. Dec. 16, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines with the Rev. Brenda Drake officiating. Burial will take place at Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines. The depths of sorrow we cannot tell, Of the loss of one we loved so well, And while he sleeps a peaceful sleep, His memory we shall always keep. Most of all he gave us love, The greatest gift of all. Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation or a charity of choice.
