WILLIAM Sevier, son of Valentine Sevier I and Mary Smith Sevier was born in London in 1704 or shortly thereafter, and sailed for America in company with his brother Valentine Sevier II. It is of them the story is told that they ran away from home and took ship for America in 1740. However the dates of birth or of running away must be wrong for it is not probable that young men of thirty eight and forty "ran away." Bishop Hoss notes the date of emigration to America as somewhere in the decade between 1730 and 1740, while George Washington Sevier, in a letter to Dr. Lyman Draper says they emigrated in 1730.
William Sevier, shortly after his arrival in Baltimore. married Catherine O'Neil, said to be of a prominent Catholic family of Maryland. They had "at least" one son Sevier ,who married and had at least four children, namely:
- (1) Theodore Francis Sevier who died at sea unmarried.
- (2) Ann Sevier, who married Frederick Seyler and had no children.
- (3) Sarah Sevier, who died unmarried.
- (4) William Pierre Sevier, born January '9, 1793.
- Sidney isn't a sibling of John Sevier, but rather his first cousin, as she is the daughter of William Sevier, John's uncle. I don't have documentation of this at the moment, but the word of the Sevier Family Historian, who has now turned her attention of that of William Sevier, the younger brother of Valentine Sevier. When documentation becomes available, I'll be happy to post it. https://www.geni.com/discussions/212678?msg=1663988 11 November 2023
