According to "Connecting Cochrane's" by Leanne Jackson - family oral history and extensive research, confirms that John Browne Cochrane and William Seymour Cochrane were one and the same person. There are legal documents, including land succession orders that refer to William Seymour Cochrane as John Kakarana (or Cochrane). Further to this, the 23rd of July, 1889, has been recorded as the date of death for both men and only one death certificate has ever been found. Lastly, the children recorded for both men have the same names and ages, so this theory has been widely accepted.
