S0013 John SHELDON of South Kingston, RI is considered to be the progenitor of the Sheldon line called William.

According to the Sheldon Magazine, S0013 John SHELDON's father was William SHELDON (SO003), born in 1611. and came to Boston, MA with Gov. Endicott. To date, William's residence in Boston or his association with Gov. Endicott has not been positively authenticated and/or documented by the Sheldon Family Association. Therefore S0013 John SHELDON has been used as the progenitor of this line. The use of William to designate the line has been done to differentiate the two John lines tracked by the Sheldon Family Association. These lines are known as the John of Providence and John of South Kingston lines respectively.

Ancestry family trees say: born 1605 England, married Mary Clarke 1628 England, arrived Massachusetts 1655, dies 2 Dec 1691 Marblehead, Essex, MA. Source is 'Family Data Collection' and AGBI. Lists his parents as Samuel Sheldon 1584 - 2 Aug 1634 Salem MA and Susanna Travis 1597 Lincolnshire England -1631 Salem MA, no sources.

[Parents seem to be an error. Samuel SKELTON married Susanna Travis, and they did not have a son William.]

MA Town and Vital records has death date 2 Dec 1691 born abt 1611. This was William Sheldon, of Salem Village.

According to the Sheldon Family Association's current theories, while a "William" was once thought to be the father of John Sheldon S0013, the only support is the listing in the Sheldon Magazine, Vol. I., which was found to be unsourced. Family trees on the Internet have erroneously picked this up and embellished on a link to English Sheldon families. The Sheldon DNA project at FTDNA has proven the Y-DNA marker of John (Jr.) S0023, and have confirmed that Isaac S0005 and John S0023 most likely had a common ancestor, and this then implies the Y-DNA marker of John S0013. The SFA and Sheldon Genealogical Society are committed to exploring DNA as a tool for identification but as of this date, there is no confirmation of a link to "William." posted Dec 21, 2017 by Jack Sheldon Jr.

According to the Sheldon Family Association, the William Sheldon who died in Salem Village (Marblehead) on 2 Dec 1691 was William, the son of Godfrey, b. 1622, m. Rebecca Scadlock (Scarlett).
