Notes for William Shook:Known as William #1William / 1782 Hampshire Co VA 12 WhitesLived on the South Fork of the Potomac River in Hampshire VA andlater migrated to Knox TN around 1786 after which they moved toBig Flat Creek, Bedford TN abt 1811. William resided on a plotof land 9 miles from Knoxville TN in which a creek which layalongside his land, "Shook Mill Creek", was named after him.The creek is now known as Burnett's Creek and is located Southof the French Broad River. William also owned and operated theMajor Swann's Mill. On Feb 10 1807 William received 148acresof Shook Mill Creek in the District south of French Broadand Holston Rivers under the "right of occupancy andpossession" clause. Shooks Gap, Knox Co TN was named after WmSHOOK. ON 11 Oct 1811 William sold the remaining 21.5 acres ofhis land to Joshua Monday and moved to the Flat Creek area ofBedford TN. Several of his children accompanied him. The following land transaction could well be WILLIAM the SON OFWILLIAM:DEED BOOK "C" Bedford CO TN: Page 504. Tennessee Grant toWilliam SHOOK, 0 acres. No. 2579. For military service byWilliam BROWN for NC. Warrant No. 938, dated 19 Dec 1803 andentered 11 Jul1 809 by No. 1585.
