Businessman, Philanthropist, Sportsman, son of William and Euphemia Douglas Sloane. at age of 15 began working with the firm of W. & J. Sloane, the furniture company of which his father was a founder. He became a member of the firm in 1866, He married Emily Thorn Vanderbilt in 1874, They had five children, in 1891 the company was incorporated he became a Director & Chairman of W. & J. Sloane. William died of a kidney ailment in Aiken, South Carolina.
