There is no evidence to prove William Smead Sr. was the son of Woodhull Richard Smith and Mary Boyle. The surname Smead is distinctly different from "Smith" in both meaning and forms. And there is nothing to suggest that William Smead was in any way connected to the Smith family. Furthermore, this Mary Boyle is a clone of "Lady Elizabeth Mary (Boyle) Smyth 1572-1635" or Lady Mary Smythe and as may be noted, she and her husband "Capt. Sir Richard Smith 1568-1638" Captain Sir Richard Smyth do not have any children by the name of either William or surname Smead.

William Smead was born in England, about 1600. His parents are unknown. In 1635, he married Judith Stoughton Denham, the widow of John Denham, or Denman. The marriage took place at St. Dunstan’s Church in Cranbrook, Kent. William and Judith had one child, a son named William, after his father. William died in England when his son was young, about 1637. They were probably living in Essex at the time. The place of William’s burial is unknown.
