Born in County Cork, Ireland. Married Elizabeth "Betsy" Givens 1750 in Lancaster Co., PA.

Tombstone was marked with a Revolutionary War marker indicating his service in the Revolutionary War and two other bronze markers when photographed in the late 1980s. The 3 markers were still present in October 2008 when visited but were missing in October 2009 when visited and re-photographed.

The Daughter's of the American Revolution cite his service as:

"William Stewart's military service: In the Revolutionary War as given by the War Department, was in Capt. John Overton's Company in Col. William Davies' regiment, the 14th and 10th Virginia regiments, his name appearing on a muster roll on December 18, 1776, and last appearing on a muster roll of camp near Morristown, December 9, 1779, with the remark "On command as Wagon Master." No date of discharge given. William Stewart having eight persons in his family."

WILLIAM2 STEWART (WILLIAM1) was born Abt. 1727 in County Cork, Ireland, and died February 10, 1811 in Monogahalia County, Virginia.He married ELIZABETH GIVENS 1750 in Lancaster County, PA.She died Unknown. Notes for JR. WILLIAM STEWART: (below information is from Jack Stewart) William arrived from Ireland and settled in Lancaster Conty, PA., in 1746. "Emmigrants to America" by Michael Tepper, p.123 states"William McCrea assignsWilliam Stewart (a servant from Ireland in the Snow Happy Return) to John Atchison of Lanscaster County, yeoman, for three years from May 21st, 1746. His occupation was wagon master and yeoman. By the tax roles he owned 100 acres of land, two horses and one servant and in 1771 was taxed 17 pounds. He brought his family to Monogalia County in 1770 and eventually acquired large amounts of land on the Cheat River and may have operated a ferry on the Youghioheny River. At his death he owned 1800 acres including most of the land around Stewartstown (called Middletown). Sims Index for Monongalia County shows 10 tracts of over 8000 acres to William between 1773 and 1800. Most of this was in the area of Indian Creek, the Monogalia River, and the forks of the Cheat River. Land records indicate William gave much ofhis landto relatives. Son Charles received two tracts of 4 acres and 7 acres, grandson William received 177 acres in1809, daughter Agnes received 88 acres in1810, David Stewart received 124 acres at Stewart's Run in1808, Mary Stewart received 100 acres, Samuel received 100 acres, and Elizabeth recived 83 acres. William's will, probated September of 1811 names wife Elizabeth, Sons Alexander, Charles, Daniel, and Robert and daughters Sarah Mckinley and Nancy Parks. Son William would have died by 1811, but there is no mention of Joseph. More About JR. William- Stewart, born about 1727 in County Cork, Ireland, married in Lancaster county, Pa., about 1750, Elizabeth Givens of Lancaster county, born about 17J1. About 1770, with their children, they migrated to Monongalia county, Va. He died Feb. 10, 1811, near Stewarttown, Monongalia county, and she died Nov. 8, 181?. His will is on record at Mor gantown.

John" Stewart (William2) , born about 17*1 in Lancaster county, Pa., married Robe of Monongalia county, W. Va. He came to Grant district and took up 1,115 acres.® He died at Morgantown in 179?, aged 45. His children were William, David, Samuel, Sarah, Elizabeth Hall, Nancy and Mary.

Charles Stewart (William-), born about 1755 in Lancaster county, Pa., came with his parents to Monongalia county, W. Va., riding a yearling calf over the mountains. He married his cousin, Jane Stewart. He sold out and went to Little Kenawha river, W. Va., where he died in 1838, aged 8j. His children were William, Robert, John, Nancy Montgomery, Isabel Blosser, Sarah Kelwine and Elizabeth.

Robert3 Stewart (William2) was a scout under Daniel Boone. He married Miss Dun- levy of Kentucky. Capt. Daniel Stewart (William2), born Dec. 25, 1769, married Ann Kelso of Monon galia county, W. Va. He was a captain in the War of 1812. He died Mar. 9, 1829, and his widow Ann died Nov. — , 1832.

Alexander' Stewart (William), born Dec. M, 1769, married June 1, 1794, Rachel Brown of Smithfield, born Nov. 4, 1776, daughter of Joshua Brown. She died in 1835 and l e died in i860 in Smithfield, Fayette county, Pa., where his children were born:
