William Stewart, 9th of Grandtully

Biographical Summary

"William Stewart, ninth of Grandtully, originally of Aberfeldy; married, 1st, Margaret daughter of Abercrombie of Murthly; and on his father's resignation they, as spouses, received a charter from Queen Mary, under the Great Seal, of the lands of Aberfeldy on 2d Jan. 1545. Margaret Abercrombie died soon after, and he married 2dly, Isobella Stewart, daughter of John third Earl of Athole. On the 22d April 1552, they received a charter from Queen Mary of the lands of Aberfeldy. He died on 2d March 1574."

There is some discrepancy between materials as to whether to consider Alexander first or second of Grandtully. e.g. William Fraser identifies Alexander as second of Grandtully (Red Book of Grandtully), while Red Book of Scotland - Stewart of Grantully identifies him as the first. For this purpose, have aligned to Pedigree of the Family of Stewart of Grandtully outlined in the above mentioned Red Book of Grandtully.
