Death Details 1887/2414, William Tannahill, Aged: 8Y

Evening Post 31 December 1886 Sad Fatal Accident A son of Mr. William Tannahill, of Silverstram, met his death at Whiteman's Valley yesterday afternoon by a sad accident. It appeared that the boy, who was about eight years old, was riding down a steep hill on on a dray laden with firewood, when he slipped from his perch and fell upon the road, alighting on his head. So serious were his injuries that he died in a very short space of time. Dr. Wilford, who subsequently examined the body, ascertained that the child's neck had been broken. An inquest will be held to-morrow by Dr. Johnston, District Coroner.

Evening Post 3 January 1887 The sad accident by which the boy William Tannahill, son of Mr. James Tannahill, of Silverstream, met his death on Thursday last, was the subject of an inquest, held by Dr. Johnston, on Saturday morning. The evidence showed that the child was riding upon a load of firewood, while his father led the horse by the head. Mr. Tannahill stumbled, and the jerk which was thus caused on the reins seems to have dragged the child off the dray, the fall to the ground breaking his neck. The jury found a verdict setting forth that the cause of death was accidental.
